Ok, the sappy meter was pretty high on that one. :-)

Interesting though how the story is the same no matter what the medium, country music, rock, movies, books. The invisible 'girl/boy next door' is such a staple of our culture.

Reminds me slightly of my feelings after seeing a film called 'Palo Alto' which is an indie coming of age film (recommend btw--on Netflix and DVD). Again, same story of 'what to do now that school is over' as many that have gone before it--Breaking Away, Singles, Kicking and Screaming (not the Will Farrell one) etc. Story is often the same, just with new soundtracks and fashion.

@PenguinSix True- the sappy meter is pretty high! I'll have to check out Palo Alto.

You're right on re: the pervasiveness of our "girl/boy next door" ideal. I recall reading an article in Glamour once, which had sent out an 'investigator' to try different looks with men at bars. The woman, when dressed in a casual, girl-next-door style, always got the best responses, hands down.

As for 'what to do now that school is over' - I'm all too familiar with that question! :)
