I’ll never forget my first morning at the Seesmic offices last summer. Having barely had the chance to grab a cup of coffee and get the office tour, this girl walked right up to me in her fashionable San Francisco style - perfect makeup, perfect clothes, perfect hair - and greeted me with an embrace that made me feel at home before I’d even had the chance to sit down.
She recognized me of course. We had chatted on Seesmic one night, when I was still in Paris. I sat on the floor of my boyfriend’s 10m2 apartment in Montparnasse, lamenting his absence as I half-heartedly watched Boston Justice and picked on a mini Big Mac for comfort food. She had replied to my videos from behind her desk in San Francisco, sharing her own guilty pleasures from Mickey D’s and suggesting uplifting antidotes to my blah mood.
That summer flew by quicker than any other I’ve known. We lived our lives both online and off, caught in a sort of dream-world where the line between real and virtual proved fluid and permeable.
She took me out to wine and dinner on the last week of my internship. We talked girl talk and office politics. But we also talked dreams and hopes, long-term goals and aspirations. We perceived a potential behind the Seesmic community and online video, and could only begin to imagine where life might lead just five years down the road.
When Seesmic changed directions, it seemed for a time that a heartbreaking halt had put an end to possibilities literally too good to be true. I remember crying for an entire day from it all, and whatever I felt comprised a mere fraction of the uncertainty she faced. Many of us heavily involved in video blogging and communication at that time have since returned to other pasttimes or occupations, convinced for one reason or another that the business models are too risky, the emotional investment too involved, and the time commitment too demanding.
Except for her.
Amidst all the hypotheticals and uncertainty, Sukhjit has made one thing clear - she’s here to stay. Through her personal site, www.sukhjit.me, she brings production experience and passion together in a compelling and diverse online portfolio. She shows us there’s no reason to give up on something you love, if only for the mere chance that things do happen for a reason, and that a dream job is out there calling your name.

Alicia! I am just reading this post and blown away. You've reminded me of some precious times that now seem like such a loooong time ago. I'm not sure weather my commitment to video blogging is foolish or forward thinking.. all I know is - it is what I do. I feel empowered by the tools that are there and the ability to connect and share are incredible. Thank you for your support and for writing this blog post. I'm amazed by you and so appreciate the love! --sukhjit
